| NUS sets up Interactive Digital Media Institute (IDMI) |
IDMI aims to attract 160 PhD and Masters students to produce research across eight areas - mixed reality, sociable robotics, ambient intelligence, multimedia sensing, social and cognitive, arts and creativity, and multi-modal analysis.
Professor Hang Chang Chieh
"IDM sector when you look at creating competitive strength is not just technology per se. We are talking about a human centred interactive technology. This is where the arts and social science, the artiste, can come in and redefine what is new media. Here we are talking about doing research, train people, so that we will attract companies and we will also enable our own entrepreneurs to leverage on what we transfer to them."

| IDM Scenarios uploaded for public viewing! |
We have recently made available a new edition of IDM Scenario under the SCENARIOS page for public viewing.
We present 4 scenarios to paint the ‘big picture’ view of potential Interactive & Digital Media (IDM) applications, upon which a collection of technology, research and demonstration projects may emerge. They are not meant to be exhaustive. But we trust that they would serve to stimulate discussion on other application domains as well.
This is the essence of scenario-driven research that enables ground-breaking research across multiple disciplines. The 4 scenarios are Interactive City, Interactive Digital Embodied Arts Studio (IDEAS), Connect and Play and Social Engagement
How to view

Abstract:
The contribution of Audio in the perception of speech and music consists of a multi-functional array of senses for perception, showing that the different individual parameters are interrelated and interdependent; consequently the perception via different senses is highly influenced by the other senses. Furthermore personal variations of the key-parameters make it difficult to define precise limits and values correlated to a certain perception..
